Let’s get right into it!

Upper Peninsula: Ore Dock Brewing Co. | Marquette

Named for the massive iron ore dock that looms just down the street, Ore Dock Brewing has been a cornerstone of downtown Marquette since 2012. What started as a passion project by two people who fell in love with the UP has grown into one of the most recognized craft breweries in the state. Year-round staples like the Reclamation IPA sit alongside rotating seasonals and experimental small-batch releases, and there is always something new on tap worth trying. Dogs are welcome on the patio, food trucks roll up regularly, and the atmosphere is exactly what you would hope for from a true UP gathering place. This is the kind of brewery that makes you want to stay longer than you planned.

Northern Lower Peninsula: Beards Brewery | Petoskey

Beards has been brewing just off the shores of Little Traverse Bay since 2012, and it has built something special in the years since. The taproom is stocked with board games, local art, and a record player that actually gets used. Twenty rotating taps mean there is always something new to try, and the views from the patio in warm weather are the kind of thing Northern Michigan was made for. Trivia nights, live music on weekends, and a genuine commitment to craft and community have made Beards one of the most beloved spots in Petoskey. Just North of Normal, as they say.

West Michigan: Long Road Distillers | Grand Rapids

Long Road earned its name. Michigan's first grain-to-glass distillery in Grand Rapids mills all of its own grain and handles every step of the process in-house, using locally sourced Michigan ingredients whenever possible. The result is a lineup of award-winning spirits that has earned attention well beyond the state's borders. The Leonard Street distillery is equal parts production facility, craft cocktail bar, and scratch kitchen, and there is now a tasting room in Grand Haven as well. If you have never sat at the bar and watched the operation up close while sipping something made right in front of you, this is the place to start.

Mid Michigan: Elderly Instruments | Lansing

Since 1972, Elderly Instruments has been one of those rare shops that earns a global reputation while staying rooted in its hometown. Located in Lansing's historic Old Town, this second-generation family business carries new, used, and vintage fretted instruments, from beginner acoustics to one-of-a-kind finds that serious players travel across the country to see. The repair shop is world-class. The staff knows their stuff. In 2023, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce named Elderly Instruments America's Top Small Business, and anyone who has ever spent an afternoon in that store already knows why.

Southeast Michigan: Supino Pizzeria | Detroit

Since 2008, Supino has been doing one thing and doing it right. Tucked into Detroit's Eastern Market district, this beloved pizzeria has built a following that stretches far beyond the neighborhood. Thin crust, fresh ingredients, and a menu that does not try to be everything to everyone. The result is pizza that regulars will tell you is the best in Southeast Michigan, and first-timers tend to agree quickly. The space is small, the lines can be long, and it is worth every bit of the wait.
